September 7, 2023

Discover the Thriving Bar Scene of Xiaoliuqiu Island

Did you know that in just a year, the bar scene in Xiaoliuqiu has experienced an unprecedented boom? Just last year, we had 14 bars to call our own, but this year, that number soared to a whopping 30. The catalyst behind this growth remains a subject of delightful speculation. One thing's certain though - the nightlife on this island is bursting with energy, offering a plethora of choices to match every mood and vibe.

I had the pleasure of hopping into a few of the recently opened bars, and I promise, they didn't fall short of expectations.

Hey Hey

Hey Hey
stands out not just for its catchy name but also as the only bar on the island boasting a pool. Beat the summer heat with a refreshing dive and indulge in their super-smooth shisha. Craving a drink? Just a few taps on your phone, and voilà! Plus, keep an eye out for their enticing 2-for-1 drink specials before 9. Whether you prefer basking under the sun or chilling indoors, Hey Hey's seating caters to all. It undeniably offers a poolside party ambiance that's hard to resist.

During the day the pool hosts freedive, scuba and mermaid instructors teaching courses. And here’s one secret, the shower in the back have the most amazing smelling shower gel, oregano scent. Divinely elegant.

Hey Hey Bar Liuqiu

SeaDaze

Having lived on this quaint island for a while, bars were gradually becoming a distant memory for me. That was until SeaDaze made its grand debut in early 2023. It's not just a bar - it's an experience that captures the essence of an uber cool beach bar setting. Feel the hunger pangs kicking in? Their food menu won't disappoint. And for all the Guinness aficionados, here’s some good news: SeaDaze serves it. Don't miss out on sipping a cold one while gazing at the mesmerizing island sunset.

Sit at the bar and watch as skilled bartenders blend, mix, and pour with panache. For those with a penchant for unique flavors, their taro shot is an absolute must-try.

Park your scooter on the street and walk into the small alley to find this gem.

Noah's

Drawing parallels with AfterJourney, Noah's is a haven for mixed drink enthusiasts. Their bartenders, much like artists, craft drinks to perfection. And if all that drinking gives you the munchies, they've got you covered with a delightful food menu.

Xiaoliuqiu is famous for its breathtaking sea turtles, crystal-clear waters, and, more recently, its thriving coffee scene. As a devoted coffee lover (okay, maybe addict), I know the first thing on your mind when visiting a new place is: Where am I going to get my coffee? That’s exactly why I put this guide together.

When planning a beach getaway in Taiwan, Xiaoliuqiu stands out among the outlying islands and even rivals the popular beaches of Kenting. Why? Because it's protected from strong seasonal winds, making it an ideal destination for water activities or simply lounging on the sand any time of year. Outside the busy student summer holiday season (July-August) and long weekends, you'll often find Xiaoliuqiu’s beaches nearly empty—perfect for social distancing or just soaking up some serene island vibes.
